Pegmatis Partners in $8M NGen-Backed Consortium to Drive Sovereign Canadian Space Launch Capabilities
Pegmatis is thrilled to announce its participation in a groundbreaking, first-of-its-kind industry consortium aimed at expanding Canada’s sovereign space launch and propulsion capabilities. Valued at over $8 million, which includes a $3.2 million investment from Next Generation Manufacturing Canada (NGen) under the Advanced Manufacturing Technology Program, this project unites four 100% Canadian-owned companies. Alongside NordSpace, Miltera, and Prime Powders, Pegmatis will help industrialize the nation's first AI-powered hybrid additive-subtractive manufacturing line for advanced space propulsion.
The consortium’s primary focus is the domestic production of high-performance turbopumps and flight-grade rocket propulsion hardware. By integrating large-format metal additive manufacturing, precision 5-axis machining, a resilient domestic materials supply chain with Indigenous participation, and advanced digital integration, the project ensures Canada can produce critical space hardware at the cadence, cost, and quality required for true sovereign space access. Furthermore, this initiative directly operationalizes the "Build-Partner-Buy" framework outlined in Canada's February 2026 Defence Industrial Strategy.
